The Definitive Tequila Tour

It’s official Fort Worthians, Spring is near! You know what that means: bring on the patio weather and spicy margaritas. Texans love their tequila, and we thought we’d share a few places here in Panther City that take their tequila menu to a whole new level. Buckle up for your exclusive Tequila Tour of Fort Worth.

1. Maria’s Mexican Kitchena close up of a glass of orange juice on a table
Located off University Drive near the Trinity River, Maria’s Mexican Kitchen is one of Fort Worth’s newest additions to local Mexican cuisine. Inspired by authentic family recipes with a modern culinary twist, Chef Felipe Armenta goes above and beyond to cultivate a satisfying, unique dining experience. Whether you’re dining inside, on the patio, or at the bar, Maria’s offers drinks featuring tequilas from all over Mexico. Not only do they offer an extensive list of high-quality tequila, but they also have a full mezcal menu and creative aromatic cocktails that pair perfectly with their cuisine.

Two words that everyone loves: Happy Hour.  Maria’s has one of the best Happy Hours in the city! Mondays through Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm, treat yourself to one of their premium cocktails for only $6. Whether it’s an Armenta Margarita or a Jalisco Espresso Martini, there is a cocktail for everyone.

2. Toro Toro

Chef Richard Sandovel celebrates the vibrant flavors and traditions of Latin cuisine with his one-of-a-kind restaurant. Toro Toro provides a richly traditional experience, as all food is served family style and pairs well with their many cocktails. Located in Fort Worth’s famous Sundance Square, Toro Toro is the perfect place for tequila fanatics. They offer a plethora of different tequila and mezcal tastings, as well as flights to help you decide which one is right for you. Let me tell you, their menu is extensive.

Who says you can’t still enjoy Taco Tuesday on a budget? Every Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm, try one of the chef’s signature tacos for $3 – or get 3 tacos for just $7. Then wash it all down with their $5 house margarita. Ready for this BONUS tip? Every Thursday, try one of their famous horizontal tequila and mezcal flights for only $15.

3. Tinies

Looking for a new brunch spot? You’re in luck. Tinies offers a killer brunch featuring your choice of orange or mango mimosas and authentic tamales. Try a Bloody Maria, their spin on a Bloody Mary featuring vodka and mezcal. Trust me: you don’t want to miss it. For more information head to their website: https://www.restaurantji.com/tx/fort-worth/tinies-/

4. Nickel City

Not only is Nickel City a Fort Worth favorite, but it also won an award for “America’s Favorite Bar”—and for good reason, too. Nickel City combines the classic, no-frills dive bar feel with a craft cocktail list that can’t be beat. And did you know they have an entire tequila and mezcal room, Bar Bagazo, to fine tune your tasting experience? Every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm to 2am, Bar Bagazo is open to the public. Located in a cozy little hideaway just inside Nickel City, Bar Bagazo offers tequila, mezcal, and sotol tastings. Choose from their wide variety of tequilas from all different regions of Mexico. Can’t make it on a Friday night? Don’t fret. Nickel City has creative tequila and mezcal cocktails on the menu for any night of the week. Fun fact: they are located right across the street from Tinies!

*Insider’s tip*

Every Tuesday night Nickel City offers buy one get one free sliders from their food truck Delray Café. They also offer a happy hour Monday-Friday till 6pm.

5. Down n Out

Nickel City’s sister bar, Down n Out, is located just down the street and offers tequila, mezcal, and cocktails galore. What’s fun about Down n Out is that they only feature two things on draft: Budweiser and their “monte/mez” shots, which are a 50/50 blend of Montenegro (a sweet Italian liqueur) and mezcal. Each shot is served in a cute little cowboy boot for that perfect Texas flair.

*Insider’s tip*

Do you love to disco? A couple Saturdays each month, Down n Out throws a dance party that features local DJs and food pop-ups from local Fort Worth chefs. Come drink tequila from a boot while you show off your moves on the dance floor!
